L. Tito a pose une question recemment a propos de Pierre Legendre (Univ.
Montreal - je lui ait repondu personnellement pour l'adresse Email). J'en
profite pour en poser une aussi qui me trotte dans la tete depuis un moment.
Pierre Legendre est venu il y a quelques semaines faire une conference a
l'Universite de Pointe a Pitre (Guadeloupe), et il a presente, entre
autres, son article ecrit dans Ecology (78(2), 1997, 547-562) : Relating
behavior to habitat : solutions to the fourth-corner problem.
Je reprends le debut du resume en anglais :
This paper adresses the following question : how does one relate the
biological and behavioral characteristics of animals to habitat
characteristics of the locations at which they are found ? Ecologist often
assemble data on species composition at different localities, habitat
descriptions of these localities, and biological or behavioral traits of
the species. These data table are usually analyzed two by two: species
composition against habitat characteristics, or against behavioral data,
using such methods as canonical analysis. We propose a solution to the
problem estimating the paremters describing the relationship between
habitat characteristics and biology or behavior, and of testing statistical
significance of these parameters; this problem is referred to as the
fourth-corner problem, from its matrix formulation. In other words, the
fourth-corner method offers a way of analyzing the relationship between the
supplementary variables associated with the rows and columns of a binary
(presence or absence) data table....
Je n'ai pas encore eu le temps de me plonger dans toute la doc d'ADE4, mais
ma premiere reaction en ecoutant P. Legendre a ete de me demander si ADE ne
repondait pas deja a ce type de probleme ? Comme on est un peu flemmard
sous les Tropiques, je me suis dit que plutot que de passer des heures dans
la doc, je pourrais directement poser la question aux concepteurs d'ADE !!
En fait, je me doute de la reponse... mais j'aurais aussi souhaite une
reaction a cet article. J'adore les histoires de petits pots de beurre !
